As part of the Senior Leadership Team, the VP, People Services will share in the opportunity to make a difference, helping to achieve the College’s long-term strategic goals and vision. As a goal oriented professional, you will be focused on achieving outcomes using a consultative and collegial approach while leading in a complex post-secondary landscape.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Strategic & Operational Planning – serves as a member of VCC’s Senior Leadership Team, shaping and implementing strategic plans and assisting in the development of policies and procedures to ensure the achievement of VCC’s strategic goals and
  • HR Leadership - creates a culture that attracts and retains key talent and develops leaders and staff in alignment with long-term goals and
  • HR Programming – provides overall leadership of VCC’s HR programs by developing, implementing, administering and monitoring a wide range of strategic and comprehensive HR programs to support and facilitate the mission and
  • People & Culture - promotes the creation of synergistic partnerships and collaboration between managers, union representatives, employees and other stakeholders/College areas in a pan-institutional approach that facilitates a productive labour/employee relations environment, promotes employee mental health and wellness, professional development, engagement and organizational resilience.

The new VP, People Services will be a visionary and strategic thinker with the ability to influence, engage and motivate a variety of VCC teams and stakeholders into action. The VP, People Services will be a supportive leader with the ability to motivate, coach and mentor teams to accomplish department and organizational goals while promoting professional development and an exceptional internal client focused culture.

The successful candidate should be a strategic leader preferably experienced within the academic setting, possessing a high level of organizational awareness and professionalism. A proven ability to lead high-performing teams, manage a variety of HR programs, and support various stakeholders within a complex post-secondary setting is required. The successful candidate will demonstrate sound knowledge of HR principles involved in strategic management, budget management, people and culture management, and Board accountability.


Required Education and Experience

  • Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) Designation, with extensive knowledge of employment, labour and human rights
  • A Master’s degree in Human Resources Management or related field of study from a recognized educational
  • Minimum ten (10) years or more of increasingly responsible experience in the Human Resources department of a complex multi-union post-secondary educational institution and/or a public sector organization, including a minimum of four (4) years in a senior leadership
  • Extensive knowledge of employment, labour and human rights legislation with demonstrated knowledge as it relates to managing the human resources and labour relations function in a public sector
  • Extensive experience in negotiations including collective bargaining in the public
  • Expert knowledge of all HR functions and best practices such as compensation, job evaluation, recruitment, labour relations, organizational development, occupational health and safety, wellness and talent
  • Proven ability to design, develop, implement and maintain a broad array of progressive HR programs and
  • Knowledge of integrated HR and Payroll
  • Superior leadership skills, organizational awareness, collegiality, sound decision-making on a diverse and complex variety of HR matters relating to other members of the College community, government and external
  • Demonstrated understanding and commitment in reconciliation, equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Sound financial experience to oversee an annual operating and capital budget for the HR department.
