Accounting Manager

Job Requirement:

Our client, one of Canada’s leading international law firms, is currently recruiting for an experienced Accounting Manager to join their Finance Department. Reporting to the Director of Administration, this role requires a candidate who will provide professional, efficient, and prompt service to both lawyers and clients.


Responsibilities:

  • Supervise a team of 5 accounting staff, responsible for tasks such as monthly invoicing, accounts payable, cash deposits, and addressing internal audit inquiries.
  • Accurately manage and record all trust funds held by the firm, ensuring compliance with the Law Society of BC’s regulations.
  • Create and oversee the annual operating and capital budgets for the Vancouver office, including financial analysis and variance reporting.
  • Handle daily banking interactions, including local and international wire transfers, and resolve any banking issues.
  • Provide strategic financial advice to the Office Managing Partner and senior management.
  • Respond to all financial inquiries from clients, lawyers, and staff.
  • Produce various financial reports and statistical information as requested by lawyers (e.g., aged accounts receivable, time tracking, work in progress, etc.).
  • Prepare journal entries and complete monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Compile annual reports for CDIC and Trust, and provide annual statistics for economic surveys.
  • Engage in both internal and external audits.
  • Collaborate with other offices on national initiatives.
  • Regularly liaise with the national Finance Department.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Commerce or Business Administration with a focus on Accounting, or currently pursuing an accounting degree.
  • At least 6-8 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably within a professional services environment.
  • Expertise in trust accounting and familiarity with the Law Society of BC regulations is highly desirable.
  • Strong leadership, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to make informed decisions using accounting principles.
  • Proficient in computer skills, particularly with Excel, CMS accounting software, and Aderant budgeting software.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
