Cuso International’s e-volunteering program welcomes new and returning volunteers to work with our international program partners and volunteers remotely. E-volunteering offers many of the benefits gained from international volunteering, while having the extra advantage of fitting into one's regular weekly schedule without needing a passport. Contributing and giving back to a community, gaining new skills, and making new connections are common benefits of e-volunteering and for Cuso International it is a great opportunity to engage more people in its mission.
E-Volunteers are expected to supply their own basic home office equipment, Internet and have a moderate knowledge of computer technology. Some of our partners are located in remote areas with unreliable internet connection. Consequently, it is reasonable to assume that when working with the partners, emails will not be responded to immediately. For most of our partners, this is their first experience working with e-volunteers and flexibility and patience is a valuable e-volunteer characteristic.

As the Organizational Development Advisor E-Volunteer, you will be supporting a key YouLead project partner: The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), as the government of Nigeria agency established with the ultimate goal of ensuring Nigeria’s future leaders are committed to national development, and social and cultural improvement through the mechanism of the one year national service scheme. The NYSC service is comprised of four segments: during the Orientation segment young graduates are provided skills training and entrepreneurship empowerment, as well as other courses, to prepare them for leadership, future employment and self-employment ; during the Primary Assignment segment youth are allocated to placement in rural areas in support of national development goals in the education, health, agriculture and rural development sectors; and NYSC corps members always participate in Community Development projects prior to Passing Out of their national service. Cuso International, Nigeria office has a Memorandum of Understanding with NYSC and have been in partnership since the inception of the YouLead project implemented in Nigeria. NYSC corps members are assigned to all the 18 LGAs in Cross River State to support project implementation.
The NYSC CRS Secretariat participated in consultation and planning processes which developed the YouLead project implementation plan. The plan was submitted to the Government of Canada, and was approved by the YouLead Project Steering Committee on June 23rd 2014. The NYSC State Secretariat through its presence in all the Local Government Areas in CRS is ideally placed to collaborated with YouLead through its capacity to mobilize youths in rural areas, the skills development and entrepreneurship training provided to corps members during the orientation phase of the service year that can be stepped down to CRS youth , and through its capacity to identify post-service CRS graduates returning to CRS.
As an e-volunteer, you will:
- Coach designated staff on how to mobilize resources using the ICT
- Facilitate online capacity gap assessment for NYSC staff
- Develop capacity building plan for NYSC staff to address identified areas
Essential Academic Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree in Humanities, Human Resources, Social Sciences, or other relevant firld of study
Essential Professional Background:
- The prospective e-volunteer should have at least five (5) years’ work experience with youths and youth organizations in both public and private sector, have experience with capacity needs assessment and organizational development. He/she should have an experience of National Government’s bureaucracies, must be patient and resilient to achieving results with a good knowledge of IT and web informatics.

Cuso International has supported Nigeria’s development priorities since 1961 through their work in the education, health, HIV/AIDS, livelihood, youth employment and entrepreneurship sectors.
Cuso International is currently exploring opportunities to widen their scope of work in Nigeria with the potential of implementing a health program in Cross River State that could expand to the Lagos State over the next 5 years. The main goal of the health program would be to increase the quality and gender responsiveness of health services for women, children and youth by ministries, departments, agencies and civil society organizations.
