Our employer is a Jewish Afterschool looking for creative, energetic and reliable teachers.

Job Function:

  • Teach classes twice (or four times) per week to children in JK/SK, grades 1-2, or grades 3-5
  • Prepare and submit lesson plans for each class using provided curriculum resources
  • Supervise break and snack time
  • Pick up students from their public-school classrooms at the Afterschool site or at nearby
  • schools
  • Create and maintain a positive, welcoming and inclusive classroom community
  • Teach Hebrew literacy and conversational skills using play-based and experiential
  • learning modalities
  • Teach Jewish values, culture and traditions through a pluralistic and inclusive lens
  • Attend monthly staff meetings (paid) to co-plan and engage in professional development
  • opportunities
  • Participate in Makom Afterschool special events (paid) (e.g. End of Year Picnic)
  • Write mid-year progress and end of year report cards to communicate student learning
  • strengths and areas for growth
  • Conduct parent-teacher conferences for all students (paid)
  • Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress and classroom learning
  • Report to the Director of Education in a timely and regular manner

Job Requirement:

  • Hebrew and English fluency
  • Fully able to communicate in written and spoken English
  • Expertise in one or several of the following: Early Childhood Education, teaching Hebrew as a second language, experiential or informal Jewish Education, differentiated classrooms, and classroom management
  • Experience with classroom teaching, lesson planning, and pedagogy
  • Background in Jewish studies and tradition
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Commitment to children’s social and emotional development
  • Desire to grow and learn professionally
  • Passion for working with children
  • Reliable and responsible

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with experiential education methods
  • Familiarity with child development and ability to apply it to lesson planning and instruction
  • Training or experience in the Early Childhood setting
  • Experience with differentiated classrooms, teaching multiple ages at once
