Brief Description:

Our employer is an Orthodox synagogue looking for an energetic, fun, doer-type individual to organize and execute various types of events. This includes coordination of logistics like scheduling, catering, tech support of daily programs, lifecycle events, special events, and holiday celebrations. The position is 4 on site and 1 remote.

Job Function:

Daily Program and Ongoing Program Execution Needs:

  • Ensure implementation and organization of daily event programs
  • Coordinate logistical aspects such as room selection, scheduling, catering, and audiovisual requirements
  • Ensure smooth execution of ongoing programs, making necessary adjustments as needed.
  • Supervise event staff and volunteers to ensure tasks are completed effectively and efficiently

Life Cycle Events:

  • Plan and execute life cycle events in coordination with families, TVS staff, and outside providers such as caterers
  • Work closely with clients to understand their preferences and vision for the event
  • Determine if an outside event planner should be hired to support the event if the client's requests are above and beyond the scope of the Shul’s scope and offerings
  • Support/Coordinate all aspects of the event, including décor, entertainment, and catering
  • Manage budgets and timelines to ensure events are delivered within scope and on schedule

Special Events:

  • Organize special events such as men's & women's guest speaker dinners and fundraisers
  • Collaborate with TVS spiritual leaders and staff to conceptualize themes and design elements for special events
  • Source vendors and negotiate contracts for services and products required for the event
  • Oversee event setup, coordination, and teardown to ensure everything runs smoothly

High Holidays and Other Holidays:

  • Plan and coordinate events for high holidays and other cultural or religious celebrations
  • Respect cultural sensitivities and traditions while designing event programs
  • Coordinate with religious or community leaders, if applicable, to ensure the event aligns with religious customs

Marketing and Communications:

  • Manage The Village Shul website
  • Weekly Shabbat schedule
  • Events and announcements
  • Generate and print the weekly Shabbat Bulletin
Job Requirement:

  • 1-5 years of professional experience
  • General understanding of the Canadian Jewish community a plus
  • Able to work independently and “manage up” effectively
  • Team player who is excited to be part of a global organization
  • Passion for TVS’s mission
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Exceptionally organized and detail-oriented; able to manage multiple complex tasks
  • Proven ability to thrive in a dynamic, high-energy environment and under tight deadlines

  • Track record of demonstrating sound judgment by making appropriate decisions and knowing
