Job Function:
Are YOU our ideal Camp Director?
Reporting to the VP of Programs, the Camp Director will manage all aspects of the camp's operations as well as seasonal staff development and retention. The Camp Director is an inspiring leader and has a passion for community building.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and implement a plan for the growth and development of a multi-campus camping program aligning to the greater mission and vision of the organization.
- Work closely with the senior team at the organization to ensure that camp is a key component of the organization's community engagement strategy, strengthening the connection between camp families and the organization 12 months a year.
- Identify and anticipate trends in the camping, Jewish identity building and youth development and incorporate them into the camps programs and culture
- Set short- and long-term goals for program innovation, staff development and increased community impact
- Lead initiatives to enhance the camp’s reputation as a premier destination for both campers and staff ensuring high standards of quality and a deep connection to community
- Seek opportunities to leverage other organizational business units to elevate the overall quality of the experience while optimizing operational efficiencies for the organization.
Business & Operations
- Develop and manage annual budget and long-range financial forecasting
- Manage business operations including partnerships, rentals, facility requirements, etc.
- Work with fundraising team to support families on financial assistance and apply for grants (e.g. Canada Summer Jobs)
- Ensure compliance with camping standards as well as Health and Safety requirements
Community Engagement
- Work with the VP of Marketing to create and execute an effective marketing and outreach strategies to attract new campers/staff and retain current ones, focusing on growing enrollment year over year
- Build and maintain strong relationships with families, emphasizing personalized communication and engagement throughout the year.
- Conduct post camp evaluations and feedback sessions to identify areas of improvement for increased retention
- Collaborate with other departments at the organization to deepen the connection of camper families and the community and to increase touchpoints, membership acquisition and retention
Programming
- Ensure program quality and industry standards are met and consistently strengthened
- Expand program offerings by seeking new opportunities for campers and staff
- Manage classic and specialty camp programs including Hebrew Camp, the Leadership Program and Sports Camp
- Ensure the mission of the Camp is always at the centre of summer programming
Staffing
- Provide leadership, mentorship and performance evaluations to support the development of our fulltime camp staff team to ensure we deliver a premium camp experience on both campuses.
- Ensure the high-level recruitment, hiring, training and management of 200+ seasonal camp staff.

Job Requirement:
What you do well
- You are a strong Strategic thinker with experience providing strategic direction in a camp setting with a minimum five (5) years' experience running a camp of the same size, plus at least 5 years managing / supervising staff with a demonstrated ability to lead and engage employees (or equivalent combination of work experience and education).
- Experience working in a not-for-profit organization is an asset.
- You have an exceptional financial and business acumen, including analytics and have successfully managed a budget of $2 million or more.
- You have strong computer skills: Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel
- Are organized and able to manage and prioritize multiple tasks, meet deadlines and manage time
- Take initiative to solve problems and be willing to seek assistance in solving problems
- Communicate well in written communication and verbally
- Can handle emergency and crisis situations
- Provide excellent customer service and be customer (member) focused
- Are knowledgeable of Jewish holidays and rituals
- Have an understanding about Israel and its culture
- Able to use Jewish knowledge to develop curriculum and program outline for children, youth and families
