Brief Description:

Our employer is a Jewish day school. They are seeking an energetic and enthusiastic French Teacher to join their dynamic educational team for the 2026-27 academic year. The successful candidates will be responsible for designing engaging, immersive French language lesson plans for Grades 6 to 8, aligned with the Ontario Curriculum. This role requires a passion for the French language and culture, and for working with adolescents in a safe and inclusive learning environment that focuses on a holistic approach to education.

Job Function:

Student Assessment and Support

  • Assess and monitor student progress in French language acquisition across all strands of the Ontario Curriculum
  • Provide individualized support and feedback to help each child reach their full potential
  • Collaborate with support staff to address the diverse needs of students
  • Write student progress reports

Classroom Management

  • Create a positive, safe classroom environment that promotes respect and cooperation
  • Implement effective and developmentally appropriate classroom management strategies to maintain a productive learning atmosphere
  • Manage classroom behaviour in accordance with school policies
  • Communication and Collaboration
  • Maintain open and effective communication with students, parents, fellow teachers and administration
  • Participate in Parent-Teacher Conferences and school meetings
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to enhance the overall educational experience
  • Participate in the school's Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to make hiring decisions.

Curriculum Development and Implementation

  • Implement a comprehensive French language program that aligns with the Ontario Curriculum
  • Integrate oral communication, reading, writing, and French cultural awareness into daily activities and lessons
  • Use communicative and inquiry-based language learning strategies to encourage curiosity and exploration among students

Instruction

  • Facilitate engaging and age-appropriate learning experiences for Grade 6 to 8 students
  • Utilize a variety of teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles and abilities
  • Foster a love for the French language and culture through creative and interactive activities suited to adolescent learners

Job Requirement:

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor of Education
  • Ontario College of Teachers Certification (OCT) with qualifications in French as a Second Language (FSL) and Junior/Intermediate or Intermediate/Senior Division
  • Knowledge of Ontario Growing Success Policies
  • Experience in the intentional integration of technology into the learning environment
  • Native or near-native French proficiency; ability to deliver instruction entirely in French
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Enthusiasm for communicative language teaching and immersive, experiential approaches to language learning
  • Energetic and passionate about fostering a love for language learning in adolescents
