Brief Description:
A private educational institution is seeking reliable, compassionate, and responsible Residence Counsellors to support students living in an on-site residence environment. This role is responsible for ensuring the safety, well-being, and positive development of students while fostering a supportive and inclusive residential community. The successful candidate will supervise and mentor students, promote a positive living environment, enforce residence policies, and coordinate student activities and events. This position requires strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to respond effectively to emergencies and student concerns. Residence Counsellors work a variety of shifts, including mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and occasional overnight shifts. _________________________________________________________ |
Job Function:
- Supervise students residing in the dormitory and ensure their safety, security, and well-being at all times
- Build positive relationships with students and provide guidance, support, and mentorship
- Promote a respectful and inclusive residence community while encouraging student engagement
- Enforce residence policies, procedures, and behavioural expectations
- Supervise study periods, homework sessions, and bedtime routines
- Support students in achieving their academic and personal development goals
- Organize and supervise on-site and off-site student activities, events, and excursions
- Provide basic counselling and support to students as needed
- Conduct regular residence rounds to ensure safety and security standards are maintained
- Respond to emergencies and provide first aid assistance when required
- Communicate regularly with teachers, administrative staff, and other departments regarding student well-being and residence matters
- Identify maintenance or safety concerns and report them to the appropriate personnel
- Complete administrative duties including student check-ins/check-outs, occupancy tracking, incident reporting, inspections, and database updates
- Monitor security systems and maintain accurate residence records
- Assist with planning and coordinating student programs, volunteer opportunities, and recreational activities
- Support overnight residence operations and respond to emergencies when on call

Job Requirement:
High school diploma required; post-secondary education preferred
2-3 years of experience in a residence, student services, youth support, education, or related environment preferred
Strong verbal and written English communication skills; additional languages are considered an asset
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and conflict-resolution skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a diverse team environment
Strong judgment, professionalism, and ability to handle sensitive situations with discretion
Proficient computer skills and ability to maintain accurate records and documentation
Valid driver's licence required
Current First Aid and CPR certification required
Successful Vulnerable Sector Screening required
Must be bondable
Flexible availability to work mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and occasional overnight shifts
Ability to remain calm and respond effectively during emergencies
Reliable, compassionate, patient, and committed to supporting student success and well-being
