Platform Staffing Group, an STA Group company is currently seeking an experienced R & D Engineer for our direct client in their Johnston, IA.   Remote if located over 50 miles from office



We are seeking a qualified, diverse skill set team member to join the Research Automation and Engineering team (RAE) located in Johnston, Iowa. Corteva Agriscience is the world leader in the agricultural biotechnology industry including the discovery, development and delivery of elite crop genetics, crop protection, and digital solutions.  

The RAE team is dedicated to the successful conception, design, development, integration and support of novel machines and instruments, scientific laboratory automation, process engineering improvements, automated greenhouses, industrial automation, and other enabling technologies within Corteva. Leveraging the most current tools and technologies, RAE delivers against a unique and broad portfolio, providing staff significant opportunities to work with a diversity of projects, skills, and disciplines.



In this role, typical job responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following areas:

Provide engineering deliverables (novel designed solutions, off-the-shelf integrations, continuous improvement, etc.) through collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and researchers for our small lot seed packaging facilities and field research stations.

Identify value added opportunities, critical needs, technical requirements, and implement new and existing solutions that measurably improve capabilities, productivity, quality, and safety of research activities.

Utilize traditional engineering tools, namely SolidWorks CAD software as well as AutoCAD to design and document engineering deliverables.

Leverage (mentoring/training available) electrical/software/controls/PLC/Vision capabilities to assist in project deliverables as appropriate based on skillset.

Develop and assemble proof of concept and prototype devices/instruments, in collaboration with other Engineers and Technicians, within a hands-on setting utilizing machine shop tools and equipment.

Develop and refine research and production processes ensuring they are lean, cost effective, data-driven and safety focused.

Deliver, document, and test new and existing engineered solutions as necessary.

Work in a team environment within a large, diverse organization, leveraging the skills of others while continuing to build upon your own.



The following requirements MUST be met for consideration of this position:  

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent combination of education and/or work experience.

Minimum of 5 years’ engineering experience.

Proven experience with 3D and 2D CAD software (SolidWorks and AutoCAD preferred but not required).

Proven experience in a hands-on setting developing, assembling, and testing electromechanical solutions.

Preferred, but not required, experience with the design, development, and integration of electrical components and systems (motors, drives, sensors, PLCs, etc.)

Existing capabilities or interest in developing a diverse skill set across the engineering fields that apply to mechatronics and automation.

The ability to lead and navigate projects and partnerships with proactiveness while maintaining strong relationships.

Strong aptitude and desire for innovation and operational excellence.

Have the right to work in the U.S. without restriction.
